Heavy winds on both days made the racing at the 2024 Luneys Developments CBYC Championship Weekend tough and challenging, but our club’s 7 attendees gave it their all.

Saturday saw a spicy NW with gusts well exceeding 35+ knots and some incredibly close racing across all classes. On Sunday, the breeze backed off for some great 15-25 knot E conditions, allowing for some great racing.

Dave Shaw had a near perfect reggata, winning five of six races in the paper tiger class to win the South Island paper tiger championships ahead of Jason Brownlie.

We also had three waszp sailors competing for the Canterbury Waszp Championship, racing it out in rough weather. Bruno Page placed 4th overall, with Ash Cole right behind in 5th after some tight battles.

Brenda (PT), Sally (Waszp) and Gashtra (Finn) had a tough time of it sitting out most of the races.

All competitors enjoyed the event and gave thanks to the CBYC committee and volunteers.
